Belltown
Belltown is a vibrant neighborhood located on the waterfront of downtown Seattle. Once isolated from the southern downtown districts by one of the tallest hills in Seattle, Denny Hill, Belltown now enjoys a robust community full of world-class art, restaurants, and entertainment.
The neighborhood itself was created through destruction. The land upon which Belltown would emerge was largely comprised of Denny Hill, which stretched into the land claim of William Bell on the north side, dropping steeply into Elliot Bay on the west. After the construction of an immense hotel, property changing hands, and perpetual disagreement about the hill's function in Seattle, it was finally regraded over a 5 year period to solidify its place as part of the downtown area.
Because Belltown is a densely populated with a wealth of fine dining, you may want to try a Belltown Restaurant Tour. This guided tour takes you out to a 4 to 5 course dinner, with each course served at a different restaurant, including specialty cocktails and dessert. This is a great way to experience the ambiance and flavors of the neighborhood, while learning more about its history and community. The price is very economical for this 2.5 hour affair, and will surely serve as an informative and delicious way to spend an evening.
You can't always count on sun in this part of the pacific northwest, but if you aren't feeling raindrops, head over to recently developed Olympic Sculpture Park. Opened in 2007, this stunning 9-acre park serves an aesthetic function while striving to maintain healthy ecological systems. It is a unique and breathtaking asset to the Belltown neighborhood.
Belltown is known for its walkability, with a variety of shops, eateries, and nightclubs all within close distance of many hotels. Although it has become a trendy area over the last decade, it maintains the bohemian charm that once defined this former low-rent sector of artists and businesses just entering the entertainment arena.
